January Timer of the Month
Timer of the Month is a recognition bestowed upon a Jaguar Timer at the beginning of each month. The timer is chosen because they have done exemplary work with their timing business and we at ITS would like to highlight their contributions and hard work.

The Timer of the Month for January is... Melanie Green from WYO Timing.
Melanie and her family team organize races in Wyoming. The founding members of the WYO Timing team have been in the race organization and timing business for more than 25 years! They work hard to make sure their events are some of the biggest and best in the area. Notable events are Bighorn Trail Run, Dead Swede Hundo, Dakota Five-0, and the Crow Fair Teepee Creepers 5K.
1. What made you decide to become a timer?
Trying to time an event like Bighorn Trail Run with 10 timing points and over 1000 participants with a hand clock, excel, and tear away bibs was not easy, or accurate. Especially when you’re a race director and there are so many other things that need attention! We started looking for a chip timing system in 2010. It was Kurt on the phone selling back then. Need I say more?! Well, now we time multiple events around Wyoming, Montana, and South Dakota, and this summer will be our 10th Conference and 10th timing season.
2. What event have you timed or hosted that has meant a lot to you?
My favorite event is not Bighorn, believe it or not! It’s too much work to be fun! My favorite event would have to be the Dakota Five-O. It’s a mountain bike race in Spearfish, SD. The race directors are awesome, and bike races are so much fun to time. This one has 700 bikers and 4 wave starts, and a big after-party in the park!
3. What’s a motto that you live by?
I’m not really sure I have a good motto! Be prepared for anything! That’s the best I can come up with at the moment!
4. What is your essential go-to race day ITS product?
Our essential go to ITS product has got to be Tom Cat! We don’t use it to time often, we use it to program chips. But it is always available at our events and has saved us on numerous occasions. (For our latest product to program chips, see our new
Jaguar SPOT)
5. What is one piece of advice that you would give to other timers.
My advice to other timers is DON’T PANIC! Kurt has built so many safety features into Jaguar. Your times are never really lost unless of course, the reader itself dies. We’ve had that happen before when someone tripped on our extension cord and pulled it out. Therefore, my next big piece of advice is, always to have a backup! REDUNDANCY, REDUNDANCY, REDUNDANCY!!
